Smooth, slippery concrete can reduce cow mobility and oestrus activity and can potentially lead to lameness and injury. Smooth concrete is commonly grooved to improve cow grip. Trials of different grooving machines and grooving patterns are currently underway at Bridge farm to assess improvement in cow traction and the associated costs. This trial update describes the machines, the grooves that they produce and the cost of grooving.
