An average case of mastitis in a dairy cow costs £220. Mastitis accounts for 11% of cows being culled (Source: Kingshay Dairy Manager). Clearly this is a major challenge to farm profitability. A better understanding of the key mastitis causing bacteria, how they are spread and how they are best treated will improve cure rates and cow health.
